Music Of The Loom
•(by Danny Kyle)

Pee nickle, po nickle, a’ roon the toon it’s heard
Pee nickle, po nickle, music o’ the loom
Pee nickle, po nickle, a’ roon the toon it’s heard
Pee nickle, po nickle, music o’ the loom

The weaver’s mind is on his work, his hands they deftly fly
Peace and rest his body shirks until his task is by
And he hums tae the music of the loom
As the cloth takes shape it brightens up the room

A weaver ne’er will mak a king, he’ll never be a laird
But the art that’s in the Paisley shawl will live forever mair
Aye the weaver’s workmanship is clear
And it’s time for rest as daylight disappears

The Queen she sits in London toon, she’s ordered up a shawl
But Sadie Fogg the weaver’s lass is queen above them all
And he weaves in the colour o’ her hair
Then he blows the candle oot, comes weary up the stair

The clickin’ clackin’ noises stoppin’, wheels grind tae a halt
An honest weaver tae the toon was worth his weight in salt
Oh the days of weaving are now past
But the memory lingers on in colours made tae last

BLESS, O Chief of generous chiefs,
My loom and everything a-near me,
Bless me in my every action,
Make Thou me safe while I live.

Will at LoomFrom every brownie and fairy woman,
From every evil wish and sorrow,
Help me, O Thou helping Being,
As long as I shall be in the land of the living.

In name of Mary, mild of deeds,
In name of Columba, just and potent,
Consecrate the four posts of my loom,
Till I begin on Monday.

Her pedals, her sleay, and her shuttle,
Her reeds, her warp, and her cogs,
Her cloth-beam, and her thread-beam,
Thrums and the thread of the plies.

Every web, black, white, and fair,
Roan, dun, checked, and red,
Give Thy blessing everywhere,
On every shuttle passing under the thread.

Thus will my loom be unharmed,
Till I shall arise on Monday;
Beauteous Mary will give me of her hove,
And there shall be no obstruction I shall not overcome.

Will at Loom

The Loom of Dreams
Arthur Symons (1865-1945)

I broider the world upon a loom,
I broider with dreams my tapestry;
Here in a little lonely room
I am master of earth and sea,
And the planets come to me.

I broider my life into the frame,
I broider my love, thread upon thread;
The world goes by with its glory and shame,
Crowns are bartered and blood is shed;
I sit and broider my dreams instead.

And the only world is the world of my dreams,
And my weaving the only happiness;
For what is the world but what it seems?
And who knows but that God, beyond our guess,
Sits weaving worlds out of loneliness
